24 Hour Read-a-Thon Hour 1

Where are you reading from today?

I am alternating between a maroon recliner and a wheelchair in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

3 facts about me …

1. I do not watch television. I've told my husband I'm burying the tv with him in his coffin. I plan to use the space for books.

2. For 25 years I've published haiku and articles on Japanese culture in several countries and been translated into a dozen languages. I've also won many prizes for my poetry (yes, money). But people in my personal life don't know I'm a writer.

3. I read every book from cover to cover, literally. Publisher info, dates, translation information, acknowledgements, introduction, dedication, footnotes, any glossary or index, author's bio, notes on type, even the colophon. Tip to tail. I started doing it as a child and just can't stop myself.

How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours?

Five or six.

Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)?

No, just to enjoy uninterrupted reading and comment on other blogs.

If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, any advice for people doing this for the first time?

This is a first for me. I'm not keen on stopping to post often so for now I'm just a regular reading fool.

  4. I think it's great that you are focusing on reading, I know posting ate up a lot of my reading time on the last read-a-thon (but I had fun anyway!). I always look forward to reading your reviews so read on! :D

  5. Hope you're having a great time reading! (Good idea not to post too much--I can see where the read-a-thon could turn into 24-hour internet day....)

  11. Regular reading fools make up about half the readathoners, actually! We're happy to imagine you leaned back in your recliner with a book and with the tv OFF.

  17. My poetry is one of the things I never brought over from my old blog when I moved here a couple of months ago. I have added a link in my sidebar to my poetry site for those interested. It's the Japanese garden entrance captioned "A Time For Haiku".

  20. My television has been gathering dust for some time now. Making it a bookcase is not a bad idea.

I have a short story challenge for all readers up at my blog.

I was late posting it so the deadline is not until the end of the read-a-thon.

Please stop by if you can.
