Sunday Salon

Last week: I read Guernica by David Boling, a truly wonderful story. I'm holding off my review until Book Carnival Giveaway on Monday Nov.3. I'm trying to acquire two copies through swapping to have a great giveaway then. You'll want to read this book. I also read most of The Body is Water by Julie Schumacher, it's set on the Jersey shore.

Today: I am reading Mudbound by Hilary Jordan, a Southern story set in the 1930s that is very interesting. This is part of ny LibraryThing Authors reading challenge.

This week: I will read Shopping for Porcupine by Seth Kantner, a non-fiction about Alaska, from Mini Book Expo. And I will review A Guide to the Birds of East Africa by Nicholas Drayson, a good story set in Kenya; and Arsonic Soup for Lovers by Georgina Z. Post, and Down to a Sunless Sea by Mathias Freese, both short story collections.

  2. I read Mudbound earlier this year and thought it was pretty fantastic - very powerful stuff.

I hope you're having an equally good experience with it!

  6. I'm interested in knowing what you think of Shopping for Porcupine. Did you read his novel, Ordinary Wolves? In a way, they're definitely companion volumes.
