Mailbox Monday

Mailbox Monday is hosted by Marcia at The Printed Page.

Those to review:

Fodor's Hawaii 2009 from Random House.

My husband is over the moon about this one. We've been to Hawaii several times over the years and it's always been his favourite holiday destination. This is a beautiful full colour 667 pg. tome of information and photos. I'm trying to convince him to write the review but
I think I'd have more chance of pulling hen's teeth.

Etta by Gerald Kolpan ARC from Ballantine, historical fiction.

Through Bookmooch:

The Gr
avedigger's Daughter by Joyce Carol Oates, fiction 592 pgs, from Switzerland. Already read, my first in 2009, for the Nine in '09 Reading Challenge, category-long. A short review is forthcoming.

A Change of Climate by Hilary Mantel, fiction, from the UK.

This will go probably go toward my new authors (new for me) reading challenge.

Prizes and gifts:

So Long at the Fair by Christina Schwarz, won from Tina at Reader for Life.

Marley and Me by John Grogan from Jennifer at Book Club Girl.

This is a deluxe hardcover edition with photos and a lovely red ribbon bookmark in it. I joined her interview
(online) with the author and even asked a couple of questions, which he answered. That was fun. I will be reading it for the What an Animal Reading Challenge.

Anyone read any of these, or reviewed them? Let me know what you think or leave me a link, I'd love to read them.

The Magician's Book by Laura Miller, non-fiction hardcover about C.S. Lewis' Narnia books.

My next two reviews:

Tomato Girl by Jayne Pupek Tuesday Jan 6.

And I am always looking for guest bloggers to post reviews or articles about books and reading in my category, literary fiction; Previously posted reviews are welcomed as good books and reviews of them are always timely. You will be given full credit for the writing and a link to your blog. Email me if you are interested.

I'm off to see what came into everyone else's home this week.

  1. You had a great week! If you get your hubby to write the review, let me know how you did it. Mine won't write one either.

  2. I just read Etta over the weekend and really enjoyed it, although I haven't got the review written yet. The rest of your stack looks good too!

  3. Wow. That's a lot of books! Looking forward to your thoughts on the Gravedigger's Daughter. That wasn't my favorite Oates novel.

  4. Hubby's writing reviews, now that's interesting. When I mentioned it to mine, his response was, nah, too much like homework. I'll be interested to see what you thought of Tomato Girl. I'm probably the last person on the planet not to have read it.

  5. My hubby barely ever reads but he just polished off a book and I mentioned that he could review it for me or even give me point form notes and I'd work it into a review but I don't think it will happen. J Kaye has her whole family reviewing for her!

  11. I haven't read the Gravedigger's Daughter yet, but I've loved the other Oates books I've read. Looks like the hubby should review the Hawaii book. I'll be back to check out how many photos are in that one...I reviewed a Hawaii travel guide in 2008, but was disappointed that there weren't too many photos.
