Read 6 to 12 books by a German author, "someone from a German-speaking country".
My projected list with completed books highlighted or linked to reviews:
Buddenbrooks by Thomas Mann
The Safety Net by Heinrich Boll
Group Portrait With Lady by Heinrich Boll
Group Portrait With Lady by Heinrich Boll
Billiards at Half-Past Nine by Heinrich Boll
Auto da Fe by Elias Canetti
Amerika by Franz Kafka
Three Bags Full by Leonie Swann
Recommendations of good literary fiction of any kind or comments on these books are welcomed.
Looks like some pretty heavy reading - good luck with the challenge.
ReplyDeleteMy Grandpa Fritz would be so happy!
ReplyDeleteBut I confess that despite my Bavarian heritage, I really don't read much German literature. Death in Venice was amazing, but that's about the only book by a German author that I think I've read. Except for Gothe's Faust back in college that I don't remember.
Good luck!
I'm surprised to say I haven't read any of these- or even heard of them- but I know they will be great because you have awesome taste :-)
ReplyDeleteI read three bags full for an online book club recently, and just loved it. My favourite so far this year, you will not be disappointed. :)
