Library Loot

Hosted by Eva at A Striped Armchair.

This week's loot:

Possession by A.S. Byatt 562 pages pb. (1990)

Completed. A very enjoyable story and an excellent example of well-written contemporary literature. Highly recommended. This is my first fiction by Byatt and I will be reading more very soon. Any recommendations?

I read this as part of my Filling in the Gaps 100 Project, but it also part of the Booker Prize Challenge (it won in 1990), and is on the 1001 Books you must read before you die list. And at 562 pages, it completes my Chunkster Challenge 2009 as the sixth book.

  2. This is a book I've been thinking I should read for a while now, but still haven't got around to it. One of these days..

BTW, just wondering if you got my email about The Museum Guard.

  3. I bought this at the library book sale last summer. Sounds like I should move it up higher in the tbr pile!

  5. I loved Possession and I am so glad to know that you enjoyed it too. I'be struggled with A S Byatt's bigger books but I would definitely recommend Angels & Insects, a volume with two novellas.

  7. I read this awhile ago. I just finished the first book of 2666 and find myself thinking of Possession quite a bit. It think it's the common theme of academics obsessed not only with an author's work but the author himself and his life. I remember there was a comment in Possession somewhere about the how people will descend on a recently-deceased writer's papers in a rather undignified manner.

  8. So glad you liked this one! I recently picked it up and hope to read it soon. With so many awards, though, I'm hoping it hasn't been too talked up.

  12. Byatt's one of my favourite authors!! All of her short story collections are great. :D My favourite three collections are The Djinn in the Nightingale's Eye, The Little Black Book of Stories, and Stories of Fires and Ice.
