Dewey's Read-a-thon Introduction

Hosted by Trish and Hannah
.
Where are you reading from today?

My living room in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

3 facts about me …

I've lived by means of dialysis and/or transplant since my own kidneys failed 33 years ago.

I have always detested shopping.

I'd rather read than eat.

How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours?

Three or four. I'm a careful reader so not a really fast one. I like to enjoy every word.

After the Fire, a Still Small Voice by Evie Wyld AUS(397 pages)
Dancing Backwards by Salley Vickers UK (261 pages)
In the Lake of the Woods by Tim O'Brien US (303 pages)
The Music Room by William Fiennes UK (216 pages)

Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon?

.
This is my chance to get back into blogging after two months of illness and computer problems. This is my fourth read-a-thon. I 'm just happy to have a reason for the family not to disturb me about anything for a day or so. I read as much as my energy allows.

If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, any advice for people doing this for the first time?

Don't compare your accomplishments in reading to what others have done. Our circumstances are all so very different. At any point where it's not fun any more, stop and do something else or go to sleep. The idea is to have fun.

  1. Traditional read-a-thon blessing:

May the bookshelf be there to greet you.
    May all the books appeal.
    May the fridge be full of tasty snacks;
the words fall soft upon your eyes and until the read-a-thon ends,
may you always hold a book in the palm of your hand.

    Good luck today!

  12. Glad you're feeling well enough to come Read-a-thon with us. Comparing my reading accomplishments to others is definitely a pitfall, that as a slow reader, I'm trying to avoid. So far, so good.

Hope you're enjoying your reading! =)

  20. I think I understand what you mean by rather reading than eating. Sometimes when I'm really into something and I don't want to lose my concentration, the need to eat seems too much of a distraction. One thing I can suggest for such cases is a good healthy power drink, like Ensure perhaps (but I'm not sure if high-protein drinks will be good for your kidneys)

But anyway, keep up the reading and have fun doing it Sandra! :)

  21. Let's go
Let's go, chip in, it's time to cheer,
It's simple, yell what you hear,
    Go Reader Go,
    Go Reader Go,
    Fire up and scream,
    Read
    Read Read!

Hope you're having some readathon fun!

    Books to the sky
My piles of books are a mile high
    How I love them
    How I need them
I'll have a long beard by the time I read them

  35. Oh how I wish I would have read your advice at the end before I was done with the read-a-thon! I was so obsessed with reading because any time I got on the computer I felt like i was falling behind everyone else. I completely missed out on all of the mini-challenges and visited very few other blogs. Next time!
