The Day the Falls Stood Still***** by Cathy Marie Buchanan

The Siege***** by Helen Dunmore

Day For Night****+ by Frederich Reiken

Three excellent novels with fascinating historical details (Niagara Falls, Leningrad, Israel and the Holocaust). I highly recommend them all.

Currently enjoying The White Woman on the Green Bicycle by Monique Roffey, shortlisted for the 2010 Orange Prize. Set in Trinidad.

Have you read any of these books? What do you think? Leave me a link to reviews, I'd love to read them.

  2. I read Day for Night and appreciated it for the gorgeous writing, but felt like it was over my head - I'm not sure I got the message of the book.

  4. I really enjoyed The Day The Falls Stood Still. My book club got to Skype with Cathy Buchanan and she's marvelously passionate about the falls. I've been hearing great things about Day For Night--definitely going to have to add it to the tbr list.

  5. I loved The Siege too and just finished Dunmore's follow-up to it: The Betrayal, which I also enjoyed. I've heard good things about the other two as well. I also hope you enjoy White Woman on the Green Bicycle. It was one of my favorite reads of the year!
