Weekly Geeks-Review Catchup

Hosted by Terri at Weekly Geeks.

This week's assignment:

1.List any books you’ve read but haven’t reviewed yet.

2.Ask your readers to ask you questions about any of the books they want in your comments.

3.Use those questions you in a post about each book and link to each blogger next to that blogger’s question(s).

I owe reviews to a dozen authors, most since last year. My health hasn't allowed me to put a review sentence together for months now. I no longer accept ARCs, but I do still read-a lot. Please ask anything about any of these books (all are fiction) and I will do my best to answer them-in as much detail as you like. This is my chance to expiate my crimes against those to whom I technically still owe reviews.

I will write a post for each book asked about and put a link to your blog. Thank you.

1.The Brightest Moon of the Century by Christopher Meeks
2.The Wonder Singer by George Rabasa
3.Down to a Sunless Sea by Mathias B. Freese
4.Arsenic Soup for Lovers by Georgia Z. Post
5.Now You See Him by Eli Gottlieb
6.An Arsonist's Guide to Writers' Home in New England by Brock Clarke
7.The Septembers of Shiraz by Dalia Sofer
8.Jenford: A Short History of Upland by Henrik E. Sadi
9.A Mercy by Toni Morrison
10.The Story of Forgetting by Stefan Merril Block
11Little Bee by Chris Cleave
12.No Such Creature by Giles Blunt
.
I've also read 60 books so far this year and over 100 last year that have not been reviewed. I'd be happy to answer questions or write a mini review for any of them. Look for TSS Month in Review or TSS Week in Review posts in the archives for some lists of these titles. You might check out my LibraryThing page too, I have 3000 books catalogued. Goodreads and Shelfari (all links are in the sidebar) list books I've read also. I love talking about books almost as much as reading them. And I do not write spoilers. Ask anything-even if I have reviewed a book already.

  1. Did you read any other books by Toni Morrison before the recent No Mercy and which did you like best?

I believe I heard a raving review of No Mercy on Simon Mayo's Book Panel and am curious to know if this is one of those books everyone will have read in a year or so... What do you think?

  3. I'm also curious about Toni Morrison's A Mercy. Is it good? Did you enjoy it? What is it about? Is it one you'd recommend to others? Who do you think will enjoy it most?

  4. From the title alone I am curious about Down to a Sunless Sea. What is it about and did you enjoy it?

  5. I agree with Gavin. The title, 'Down to a Sunless Sea' sounds intriguing. Can I echo his question, please?

    Thanks, and happy weekly geeks!

  6. The title Arsenic Soup for Lovers caught my eye. What's it about?

  7. I wanted to know about Toni Morrison's book "A Mercy." I see that it has already been asked about so I'll just let their questions stand for me. Thanks!

  8. I've been wanting to read Little Bee for a while. Can you compare the story to something similar and the author to another with a comparable writing style?

  9. By coincidence I read about A Mercy in my paper only yesterday, and it sounds like an amazin book. Is it a difficult read? (Not in terms of the theme, but more the style? I've struggled with Toni Morrison before)

  10. "The Brightest Moon of the Century"--hooray for your recommendation. I'm sorry to hear your health has been an issue, but I hope the book gave you a shot of hope. Did you laugh in parts? Did you find anything moving? I've always curious. Thanks for the read.

  11. I read Down to a Sunless Sea but I wasn't as enthusiastic about as many of the other reviewers. What did you think of it? My post is here.

  12. Of all of your unreviewed books, are there any that you love, love, loved? If so, what did you love about it. Alternatively, has there been one that maybe you didn't love but you couldn't quite get it out of your mind later? What made it stick with you for so long?

  13. Without giving away anything about the plot (since the book jacket wants to keep it a secret), how would you describe Little Bee in one or two sentences? If you were a bookseller like me, what kinds of customers would you recommend it to?

  15. Did Sofer do a good job of of bringing Iran to life in The Septembers of Shiraz?

Did you like the disjointed narrative in A Mercy?

I've had my eye on Little Bee for awhile. Would you recommend it? What type of readers would enjoy it?Did Sofer do a good job of of bringing Iran to life in The Septembers of Shiraz?

I've had my eye on Little Bee for awhile. Did you enjoy it? I love international fiction, but I worry about stories that are 'brutal.' Knowing that I love Adichie's novels, do you think I'd like this one?

  16. Little Bee is called The Other Hand in the UK – which title do you think best suits the book?

What do you think Little Bee has to say about courage and human nature?
